Origami Bills

Dear American Economy,

I went to Japan in August of 2005 at which time I bought currency (the approximate starting point of this graph) at about 115 yen to the dollar. I continued to buy currency at an even better rate through December 2005. But now - according to this graph - I should expect to see about 85 yen to my hard-earned dollar (hey, z-folding paper and stuffing envelopes all day is pretty tedious, and don't get me started about dipping into my savings until my government funding kicks in). That is more than 25% drop in value.

As such, I have a favor to ask. Aside from the problems we're having with the job market (though I am thankful that 2 of my friends have been able to find employment recently), I am also uncomfortable with accepting this exchange rate. It makes me think I'd be better off folding all my dollar bills into origami swans, but I don't have the patience, and if I have to Z-fold anything else in my life, I will papercut someone to death. The favor I'm asking is if you can turn yourself around in the next 48 hours (when I will be purchasing my currency at the airport) back to 2005 rates. Hell, I'll even let you be lazy and return to June/July 2007 levels: it was only 3 years ago!

Much Obliged,
Mariko
