As a quick addendum to my post a little while back about the perfection that is your typical Japanese woman (ugh, I actually bought deodorant off Amazon because it does not exist here. Don't ask me what I paid and now I'm sitting here waiting for the delivery guy to drop it off... it's deodorant. Do you really need my signature? ETA: got my deodorant. It was wrapped in bubble wrap. やるすぎ、日本、やりすぎ. Also, this is one unwieldy parenthetical aside, huh?), the other thing I've noticed in my travels on the internet is that Asian actresses really bring it on the red carpet. I mean, it's absurd. Along with a few other fashion blogs, I've started reading Red Carpet Fashion Awards (thanks, Tina), and she highlights just how well these women bring it when they're stepping out on the town. Actually, in looking over the images I've picked out here, I'm realizing that not one of these women is Japanese. The superior genetic make-up extends to the entire Pacific Rim it seems. Have a look:
My favorite...
Long-time girl crush right there: the woman speaks like 3 languages. Haters to the left.
Impeccable taste, at least on the part of the stylists. I think you can also tell I have a thing for dramatic ball gowns, mostly because I haven't had any reason to wear one outside of my prom. Also because when I was a wee little girl my career ambition was to become a princess (I blame Disney and my own inherent laziness). Lately it's been hard for me to find things I've actually liked on the American red carpet due to some truly heinous trends (BOOTIES, excessively origami-like dresses - I fucking HATE Marchesa-, cut-outs, and the scary threat of the return of florally dresses from the 90s... ::shiver::), and sometimes it feels like our stars just aren't trying hard enough. Check this:
America, take note, because if this is what our most beautiful woman is wearing out to movie premieres (I say that's very debatable because St. Angelina bores me to tears), I may need to start to learn to read Chinese so I can focus exclusively on their fashion blogs, if such things exist. I've hated pretty much everything I've seen Angelina wear in the past few years. And of course there's Anna Wintour's inexplicable obsession with Blake Lively (not saying she's not hot, but c'mon Vogue, try harder) and the baffling decision to crown her Vogue's Best Dressed in their December issue. I mean, this:
What. Is. THAT. I love Vivienne Westwood as much as anyone else, but this... Girl doesn't use a stylist. 'Nuff said.
Oh hey, let's look at some more awesome Asian fashion via China Fashion Week and a far superior blog, Project Rungay
If you want more, go here, and then here.
And now after all that, I am going to watch the "Bad Romance" video for about the 400th time. Gaga, I am ready for Born This Way. I need something else to dance to.
I don't know how citing sources works on the internet. God that sentence sounds so stupid, but I'm a grad student and it is the most unnatural thing for me not to give credit where credit is due. And since a lot of my posts are just me right clicking images and saving them on my hard drive, I sometimes wonder if I'm not supposed to be sticking a quick mention down at the bottom. A lot of the time pictures come with watermarks, other times not. Anyway, I owe this post to Red Carpet-Fashion Awards, Getty, and the Youtubes. See. I am not a crook.
P.S. New poll up at the top! It's still food-related, naturally.

why is it that beauty (and fashion) is so effortless for the ladies of the Pacific Rim??!!
ReplyDelete::so jealous::
Unfortunately for me, I did not inherit that "special trait" from my dad. Boo.
